Woman killed Monday evening in Hall County train accident

By Austin Eller News Director

A woman was killed late Monday evening after a train incident south of Gainesville.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office said in a press release that Krystle May Holgate, 35, of Dawsonville, died after she was hit by a train at about 11:40 p.m. on Dorsey Street near Industrial Boulevard.

An initial investigation by the agency found that Holgate was walking on the railroad tracks as a Norfolk Southern train approached. The conductor sounded the train's horn, but Holgate did not move from the tracks and was hit. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Holgate's body is being sent for an autopsy, but investigators do not suspect foul play in the case.

Deputies closed Dorsey Street between Industrial and Aviation Boulevards for about two hours early Tuesday for the investigation.
